Today in the car, my typically-not-too-vain husband turned to me and asked if his eyes were getting lighter. Well, yes, they did look a little paler than the Caribbean blue shade they were when he first glanced my way (gasp) twenty-five years ago. After surfing the Internet in search of an answer to this startling discovery, I also pondered how weird it is to not notice small changes in someone you see every day. Anyway, my evidence to the eye-color changing issue was confirmed. Apparently, over time, eye color can change as the pigment granules in the cells increases or decreases. Scientists who have studied the topic say that about 10 to 15-percent of the Caucasian population will notice an eye color change as they age (with most getting lighter) and that the proclivity to change is based on genetics. If you are noticing a change in the color of your eyes and aren’t happy about it, a pair of colored contacts can help you get back to “normal.” Or, you can even choose to wear a pair of color contacts that are not at all representative of your original peepers.

‘Tis the season for sweets and what better way to add a delicious taste of flavorful fashion to your holiday wardrobe than by adding a pair of colored contacts. We’re talking eye candy here, in the literal sense that colored contacts are a yummy confection for your peeper. No matter what kind of sweets you like, there are color contact lenses that inspire the flavor.
Chocolate: Achieve the rich, dark and decadent look of chocolate with a pair of dark brown contact lenses. For centuries, the cocoa bean has been beloved for its delicious taste and aroma – just one look at your chocolate brown eyes and the gazer will melt.
Gingerbread: Nothings says loving than something from the oven and gingerbread has always been a home-style family pleaser. A pair of brown color contacts accented with flecks of cinnamon will give you a warm and friendly demeanor.
Butterscotch: Butterscotch candies are a nostalgic way to tempt your taste buds, these butter and brown sugar candies have been popular for years. If you to take on the creamy melt-away appearance of this classic candy jar favorite, a pair of golden amber color contacts is the secret ingredient for you.
Peppermints: Pretty much the go-to sweet of the season, peppermints swirl their way in the shape of canes, disks and ribbons. It would be quite unusual to have eyes with the signature red-and-white stripes of time-honored treat, but we think that the pictured contacts might do the trick. While these lenses may have originally been intended to be a “safety hazard” symbol, we think they look just like red peppermint candy.
Blue Raspberry: Is it a flavor or is it a color, we don’t know but we love Blue Raspberry, that popular name for slush drinks, cupcakes, sprinkles and such. Turn your eyes into a fabulous fruit with a pair of blue-violet color contacts – you may look just like the greedy little girl from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Oops, she did it again. That sometimes sloppy Britney Spears appears to have lost one of her colored contact lenses by the look of her different colored eyes. We know that the popstress doesn’t have Heterochromia Iridum, the scientific name for having two different colored eyes. While born with naturally brown peepers, Britney is usually seen flashing about baby blue eyes thanks to color contacts. Sometimes she’ll wear green or hazel, but Britney definitely seems to like the look of blue eyes. However, what’s a toxic, hair-weave showing, barefoot-truckstop-walking, Cheeto-muncher supposed to do when one of the blue contacts falls out? Just live with it, it’s all part of being a hot mess! If you’d like to have blue eyes just like Britney Spears, either two or just one, check out Color My Eyes for some great choices in blue colored contact lenses.

Hi, a couple years ago I purchased brand new colored contacts to wear to a party. I only wore these color contacts once for a couple hours and then stored them away in the lens case filled with solution. Now, I have another special event and I’d like to wear them again, do you think it is safe? Ashley
Dear Ashley: It is probably not a good idea to wear these colored contacts again, in our opinion. Some manufacturer’s report that their products can stay inside the lens case for up to 30 days without having to be re-cleaned. However, it there was even just a little bit of bacteria left lurking on the lens, it would have had two years to keep growing — yuck! While you could try to refresh them with cleaner and put in a new case with fresh solution, it is risky. If these are disposable as opposed to hard contacts lenses, there is also a strong possibility that they could have dried up to some degree in the old solution. Either way, wearing a colored contact that has either lurking bacteria or damage could cause a nasty infection. When it comes to the health of your eyes, better safe than sorry. It’s time to get a new pair of colored contacts, so check out Color My Eyes where you can find color contact lenses that will keep your peepers happy and won’t break the piggy bank.

A nod, no make that a high-powered high-five, to the transforming properties of colored contacts, the possibility that Arnold Schwarzenegger may actually wear them. This past bodybuilder, popular action-film actor and now governor of California has naturally hazel-brown eyes, but it is rumored that he wears blue colored contacts to create a “softer and kinder” appearance. While this may be a tough job for mere colored contacts to do since he is known for toughness, just thinks of his official and unofficial titles as Mr. Universe, “The Austrian Oak” and, of course, “The Govenator!” While most people consider brown eyes to be friendlier than blue, Schwarzenegger does look good with his blue eyes and we’d like to shake his hand or give him a baby to hold. Whether he does or he doesn’t wear colored contacts, Schwarzenegger may be wearing the blue contacts to help cozy up with Democratic blueblood wife, Maria Shriver. If you choose blue color contacts like “The Arnold,” they will not fail you, disappoint you or ever let you down!

It’s no mystery, Rey Mysterio of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) fame is a fan of colored contacts. This professional wrestler of Mexican descent is a popular character in the WWE’s SmackDown brand where Mysterio shows off his high-flying Lucha Libra wresting style along with outrageous costumes. Colorful and crazy, his wresting costumes always feature a mask that he wears with matching colored contacts – everything from yellow contacts, red colored contacts, white-out special effects lenses and more. Perhaps the startling effect of these FX lenses throws the competition off guard – who knows?!
The history of these masks dates back to the early part of the 20th century when the luchadores would conceal their identities with these Aztec-inspired masks. The mask a fighter wears becomes an integral part of his identity and is so sacred that an opponent can be disqualified if he pulls it off during a match. The signature look of this wacky wrestler has become a fan favorite; many spectators who come out to cheer on Rey Mysterio often deck themselves out in copies of his wild masks and over-the-top color contacts.

It can be very expensive to pursue some of the cosmetic beauty treatments available for the eye area – but it seems every one is doing “a little something” to look younger, more vibrant or just prettier. Eyelash extensions, which adhere to the natural eyelash, can run anywhere from $250 to $600 and require touch-ups every 2 weeks to fill in the gaps of the eye lash shedding cycle –ka-ching! Botox for crow’s feet is a popular option to temporarily get rid of unsightly crinkling, but at average cost of $300 – $400 per treatment that needs to be refreshed every 2 to 3 months, is it worth it? And, although permanent, eyeliner tattooing is a eye-defining option that can cost between $300 to $1000 depending on the artist and exact specifications. Whew, this is a lot of money to spend for beautiful eyes. Instead, why not try a pair of colored contacts in the eye color of your choice and buy yourself a new set of eye shadows, pencils and mascara or even a spa vacation with all the money you save. You can get a pair of quality color contacts for less than $100 a pair that will have you looking like a million bucks! People will come up and ask what you did to look so great, but it can be your little secret!

Seeing as November 3rd is official Housewife Day, I couldn’t help but think of the sexy, sassy gals on ABC’s Desperate Housewives drama. These women are not housewives in the 1950s sense, instead they’re women who know what they want and exactly how to get it! One thing these ladies have in common is they look darn good, whether they are making muffins for the bake sale or holding down a corporate job while juggling kids. Each lady has her own style and the character Bree Van de Kamp intrigues us up with her Martha Stewart like perfection that covers up all sorts of brewing issues underneath. With striking red hair and a flawless, porcelain complexion, Bree has vibrant green eyes that flash with coldness, compassion, condescension or whatever mood she’s in. In real life, actress Marcia Cross does have the natural red hair but her eyes are actually grey – she must be wearing green colored contacts for the show! If you’d like to have emerald green eyes like the beautiful Bree, a pair of green cosmetic contacts will transform your look fast!

Hey Twihards, it’s not all about Edward and Bella. While this couple could probably be considered the stars of the teen vampire romance series Twilight by Susan Meyers, they are certainly not the only duo to consider dressing up as for Halloween. Take a slightly different approach to your dark side by joining a friend to suit up as another of the vampire couples such as Alice and Jasper. Alice is a petite girl with short, spiky black hair who has a fun, bubbly personality although she is burdened with the gift of reading the future for both humans and vampires. Her mate, Jasper, has the trademark tousled blonde hair so ubiquitous in the Twilight series and was involved in vampire wars in the South – it was Alice’s vision that led her to him because she knew they were meant to be together. The clothing that Alice and Jasper wear is easy to put together for a costume; it’s just the typical teen clothing – jeans, t-shirts, vests, boots and such. The main two accessories that you need for a Twilight costume are a pair of golden color contacts and a set of prosthetic vampire fangs. The gold colored contacts are easy to find and come in a range of otherworldly shades – you can purchase these color contacts specifically made for vision correction or to be purely cosmetic.
